Haven't found the answer anywhere. How much live rock do I need for my 60g non predatory tank with 40g half full sump?

general rule is 1-1.5 lbs per gallon.

I'd consider 1lb per gal a minimum to handle the bio filtering.

If you're like most you'll probably find that it looks abit scarce (depending of course of your aquascaping) and will add more.

I think 2lbs/g is not unheard of.

By the way in this day and age dont even consider getting large bulks of LR from your local fish store. They typically charge $8+/lb.

You can get it from many sources on the web now. I got mine from www.eastcoastclams.com for less than $4/lb AFTER shipping costs.

He's right. LFS charge you and arm and a leg for premium live rocks. Go to www.liveaquaria.com to order your fiji rocks. They have a 45lb box for 99 dollars with 1.19/lb for shipping.

Excellent rocks and pricing there.

Yeah, except that I live on the other side of the planet. It's OK though, I've already found a cheap source.

of course, the more porous the rock the less of it (in terms of weight) you actually need. i have a 25gallon tank with super-porous rock from bali and couldnt even do 1pound per gallon. there just wasnt enough space.
