We very often mix fast growing species like M.cap with slow growing species like A.loripes but I wonder if it would be detrimental to the slower growing species?

In the wild, the faster growing will likely overshadow the slower ones and thus it is unnatural for them to grow in close proximity, and I would say being in the same tank is close proximity.

Apart from light how about substances like calcium and enzymes? In our tank at any given moment only a finite amount of these are available and if the faster growing are utilizing them at a faster rate is there enough left for others?
