On my live rock I have bright red stuff. I mean the color of a red crayon sitting out in the sun on a white piece of paper red. It just about has a reflection. This isn't cyano is it? It's really beautiful.
Sorry no pictures the cheapo digital camera I bought doesn't work very well.

Can you describe its form besides colour?

I think...

If you touch it and it's slimey and disperses into the water as a cloud or stringy stuff, it's cyano.

If it's featureless like rock, it's probably coralline algae.

If it's seaweed-like, macroalgae.

If it's has white spikey things on the extremities and it's like sharp rock, it's probably formiferans (spelling not checked).

Is anything else really red in our tanks? I mean, besides coral and critters.

Duh!!! Never thought about touching it to see what it felt like.

Didn't shred and dissapear. Yea not cyano

was soft to the touch but not slick.

No white things on it and is not hard like rock

so its either corralline algae or macro algae

You guys are so much help!!
Maybe someday I'll be able to offer some help.
