I haven't cracked the last bucket I ordered. Great to know tho, might just order one before deadline. It's a great deal.

Thanks for the info, I've been buying small bags of IO waiting for another good buy from them.

I refuse to pay $70.00 at Petco......and then again, depending on how many small bags you buy, you end up paying more:rolleyes:

Just a quick question here. Can salt go bad? I only have a 29G tank so a large bucket like that would last me forever. But it sure is a good deal.
Would it be OK if I just make sure the lid stays on tight?

Thanks,
CaptK

Just don't let the moisture get to it.... As long as the aslt doesn't clump, then you are alright. :)

if you are a northwest airlines frequent flier, you can get miles, if you buy the salt going through the NWA skymall .......
nice little bonus!

Howman,

I couldn't find Petsmart from the skymall.com site.

I saw that there is a $50.00 min purchase for the free shipping at petsmart. I only wanted to get one 200 gallon bucket which will not meet the min order. Is any one interested in splitting a 2 bucket order?

Dennis:rolleyes:

When I open a new bucket I get an empty bucket, put a garbage bag inside and pour the new salt into the bag. I keep a twist tie in the bucket and keep the bag sealed except when I am taking salt out.

I find that if you leave the bag open for more then 10 minutes the salt begins to crust, the bucket covers don't seal well enough to keep the salt from clumping.

Is there a reason why people prefer IO to the Coralife Scientific Grade salt?

Scuba_Dave

I started w/IO so I am staying with it. I have heard problems of people switching salts.

Which brings up another thought, if you are moving a frag/coral during a trade from a tank w/IO to a tank w/another salt (or visa versa), couldn't that cause the same problem (die off - bleaching etc)??
Another thing to list when making trades???
I know acllimation should take care of this but...

Hey, since we're high jacking another thread, how many holes DOES it take to fill the Albert Hall?

Scuba_Dave

You would have to go to the Sea of Holes to count them, I think there may have been enough

I don't know if they have fixed the problem, but one very serious problem with the Coralife salt (actually everytime I see this name on something I usually try to avoid it) was that the lithium concentrations were WAY out of whack (high), and it tended to kill a lot of echinoderms. I think the salt of choice for most reefkeepers is IO.

Thanks Howman, I'll try the link.

Although the lithium would help my depressed clownfish:D

I have been using Crystal Sea Marine Mix, but it is not as easily obtained as IO

Someone is feeding their fish some weird stuff. If you go to Petsmart fish section and click on "Fish Top Sellers" you will see what I mean.

I remember one of my first trips to Inland Reef, I asked about something that was Coralife brand. They informed me that they usually refer to it as "Coraldeath."
