I have the beginning of an aiptasia explosion ( maybe be because of my Ph problem) but I would like to order some peppermints. The old etropical used to have a bulk package.
Any one know of a place, or maybe a lfs that doesn't want $8 for them?

I would be interested as well. I haven't even been able to find them locally....regardless of price.

Aqua Addicts had some for a resonable price but they were small.
Sea World gets them but they usually charge over $15 a piece.

I'd be interested too if you find a place, I'm on my way to Aqua Addicts right now I'll talk to them about an order. They will do custum orders and have done them for me before. I'll post when I get back.

I have been looking locally and on-line lately for some lately also, but they appear to be in short supply right now. It may be a seasonal thing?

Little Shop of Pets had one yesterday 3.99

Sea World didn't have any on Monday or Tuesday but had 50 on order for Thursday ( I think 3 for $19.00)but Chris wasn't sure if they would come in?

Sea Crop was out of them on line.

I am not sure whether Mike had any at A.A.

Premium Aquatics had 50 Tank Raised in stock as of yesterday...$9...
5 or over drops the price to $7. Maybe with a bigger order they could do better.

If you guys want to do a local deal Aqua Addicts said they would check tomorrow and either e-mail me or post on this thread.
FWIW, I'd rather go through Aqua Addicts they have been treating me right from opening day. Support our local shop...all that @#$%. Plus we get to see them before we buy them.

also
look at JT's site---justphish.com
$3.00 each, free shipping at $60

not sure if JT is a sponsor of BRS, he has attended some events, he is in waterbury CT.

I'd be in for some to put in my 30g. Just need to know if they will co-exist with clowns (I would hope so). Maybe only 2-3 for 30g?

Will they fight with a Coral Banded shrimp? I have the CBS in my 60g

Any downside to these? Do they just cleanup whatever is around?

Corwyn
07/20/2003, 03:41 PM
Dave,

I am not sure but I do believe that the coral banded will attack the pepermint shrimps!

Which, by the way, we want to make sure that they are the RIGHT kind of pepermints! The ones that eat aiptasia!

Local is great with me, if the price is right.! Let us know what the locals say.

Corwyn

Dave, they'll be fine with clowns and I believe the coral banded will be fine also. Peppermints are pretty peaceful (unless your an aptaisia) they look alot like hingeback shrimp which I've heard are nasty little .... So most times when some one says they have or had a killer peppermint it was really a hingeback sold to them as a peppermint.

Yanni
07/20/2003, 03:49 PM
Ive had 3 peppermints and a latge CBS living together for a few years now. They arent peaceful to each other but have their own spaces in the tank. The peppermints do control my aptasia but also like to much other polyps and such.

If anyone is planning a bulk order for them at $3.00 a piece:

look at JT's site---justphish.com

Then I would be in for 10 -- that's half way to an order right there.

Yes, camelback shrimp are bad, peppermints are good. Unfortunately, they end up being feeders eventually, which is why I need a lot of them, but don't want to pay too much.

saltwaterfish.com has where you can order 10 for $34.99, min order is $75 with free shipping on all items as long as you meet the minimum order.

I would be interested in a few but I want large peppermints not the small ones you find in the LFSes around.

Toss em on the barby. Are you sure snail was not dead & shrimp was not just cleaning up? Might be hard to tell tho.

Good idea, I haven't used the grill much this summer :) I am pretty sure they were alive but not sure if the PP was "snacking" or cleaning.

Ken2001

I'm not particular on size (though small ones are more likely to be eaten quicker than larger ones - on the other hand, if they avoid being eaten, small ones are presumably younger, and should therefore live longer). So when's the order going in? How should we pay?

Sure I am. I supply all the sounds for Jackie Chan's fight scenes. I got my start in the old Batman and Robin TV shows doing the "BIF" "BAM" "CRASH" and then moved to China to study at the Shanghai Film Studios for martial arts films. Next time you hear a "SMACK" or "BANG" in a movie, think of me.:lmao:

Perfect Pet, What's the prtice on yours?

If B orders through TI, I think they generally charge about $9.95 for theirs. Inland Reef used to charge about half that, I think.

Ken

The Perfect Pet
07/23/2003, 05:37 PM
You guys really need to stop associating everything that I do with TI. I just work there. I have my own company, The Perfect Pet (for 5 years, long before I was at TI or Skipton's). We are also a BRS sponsor. I am not ordering them through TI. I have a great supplier that I have used for years. I sent a PM to corwyn with the pricing. There is no charge for shipping and there is no Min. order. I am planning on ordering some for myself and my clients for next Wed. arrival I just figured I would offer.

Not to be a pooper head but why all this effort to save a few dollars on a shrimp? Just get them from Jeremy or Brendan and be done with it:eek:.

Do a power buy for some stream pumps and I'm all over that:D.

Scuba_Dave
07/23/2003, 09:54 PM
Its not about the money, its about saving money and getting a bargain. :)
I know, what you save on a shrimp is very little compared to a reactor buy or lg item ticket. It's just the idea of a better price...getting a bargain...

Armando
07/23/2003, 09:59 PM
not to mention that group buys are a lotta fun! Can't wait to get my SCWD :)

3_high_low
07/23/2003, 10:03 PM

But I'd feel a lot more comradery saving $50 on a stream pump.

3_high_low
07/23/2003, 10:39 PM

Honestly, at this point I don't care how much it costs. I'll buy it from whomever gets it first.

OK, let see.... If I buy 10 shrimp at TI @ $9.95 I would pay $99.95. If I buy 10 shrimp at IR @ $4.95 I pay $49.95. If I buy 10 shrimp through the powerbuy at $3.00 I pay $30.00. So, if I buy through the powerbuy I save $69.95 over TI, and $19.95 over IR. Not to be penny ante, but I'll take those savings every day.

I also have the added convience of saving a two hour round trip to TI, and and a near three hour round trip to IR. If I cruised down to Jeremy, it would be a four hour round trip (though almost worth it since he's got such a cool shop).

So... what's the problem?

Ken

PS - B - re-read what I said: "If Brendan buys through TI." Emphasis on the word "if".

Yep, if B has a competitive price, (compared, to, say, Phishybusiness) then that's what we should go with. You're right that he's centrally located, at least for me, so I'd plug for going with him.

ummm, bad news guys. I just read this thread. It appears that no one got in touch with me. On Wed. I said I needed to know ASAP if you wanted me to add to my order. No one got in touch with me. I placed my order yesterday. I ordered the 36 I need for my clients and myself. They are being collected this weekend. And as said by some one earlier in this thread, they are in short supply right now(seasonal thing, I am told) I can try and call and add some to the order on Mon. But I can not garauntee that I will be able to get them for this Wed. I wish some one had contacted me or let me know you were interested.

I'm still interested in getting my 4 small peps. Who is in charge of this group buy?

The Perfect Pet
07/28/2003, 09:27 AM
That is what I would like to know. No one has contacted me at all. I thought Corwyn was heading up the group buy, But I am not sure. I wish it was a bit more organized.

Anyway I called my supplier and she can not add anymore to my order for this week. I could try for next Wed. for more, but no gaurantee on the exact quantity I can receive (they are in limited supply right now.) and no gaurantee on what size they will be. They told me right now I should be happy and "take what I can get" I guess everyone is hitting them up for shrimp right now.

Please, who ever is heading up this order (or any other groupbuy for that matter), you need to contact the companies you are going to deal with. You can not expect them to follow the threads. Good communication will lead to a great order no matter what it may be. Lack of communication will only lead to disater.

-B-

Armando
07/28/2003, 09:33 AM
Perfect Pet, it doesn't seem that anyone is really in charge of the group buy. I am willing to organize this but the first step is to know the price for each pep. Then I'll ask people to send me the money. After I receive the money I'll place the order. So what is the price per pep again?

Scuba_Dave
07/28/2003, 09:35 AM
I don't think anyone took charge of this as a group buy. A lot of people chimed in w/interest & possible suppliers. I'm busy with completing delivery of fans, SCWD's, and finishing up the AB bulb order. So I'm a little busy. Plus I don't mind organizing hardware orders, but I'll leave critter/corals to the more experienced. :)

i contacted reeftopia
they have the shrimp...if they get a little notice. a few days
they said it is not the best season for them...

their website says they are large 1.5"
i don't mind putting together a group order....i live in newton, if that is convenient...others said they would go ahead and do the group order....either way..

shipping is free if order is over $120, if order is over $200 we get an additional 10% off......

jacko
07/29/2003, 04:08 PM
sounds like we'll qualify for free shipping plus 10% off for sure.

I hope their ad of 1.5" is not bogus -- seems like every other collector cannot find any / many / or big ones this time of year.

so what happens, Peps take vacation this time of the year? lol

Ken2001
07/29/2003, 04:44 PM
It's not the breeding season, I think. During their breeding season(s) they're so prolific they're easy to catch, inshore, cheaply. They can be captive-bred, but it's cheaper just to collect them.

BTW, pick up in Newton's fine w/ me.
