Anyone interested in another 250w 10K (13k) AB order?

Just trying to see if there is enough interest. The last thread on Ushio vs Ab stirred some interest.

This would be a group buy thru a local LFS (he did the last AB grp buy). They need 12 bulbs of each type to get the deal.

I myself would be interested in (2) 250 AB 10k (13k) mogul bulbs.
Anyone else interested post here & we'll see if we have enough to make an order. If not I can wait & we'll try again.

This would be limited to local people (BRS & CARS), pu to be arranged.

The reason I won't buy this bulb from Hellolights:

HelloLights does not warrant any Aqua Medic "AB" metal halide bulb(s) per Aquamedic policy, not ours. Please read the following if you plan on purchasing an AB bulb from us OR if you have a bad Aqua Medic bulb purchased from us.

I was just made aware of a few people having problems running these bulbs on the same ballast I have (Hamilton Tar Ballast). Apparently the bulbs don't always fire...and sometimes shut off prematurely. Therefor, I am going to have to hold off.

I really wish I had an HQI or Pulse start ballast :(

I have a CSL prism pendant, I spent some time trying to figure out if these bulbs will fire on the ballast. Anyone have any idea? I even went as far as to check out the CSL website and they do not mention. On the socket it says "4-kV pulse rated triboro" or something to that effect. I imagine this means the ballast is a pulse (in addition to the fact that CSL is an American company) but I'm not sure why it would specify the ballast type on the socket. Thoughts? Think the bulb will fire on my ballast? If so, I would like a 250w mogul bulb.

All the sockets will say pulse rated.. that has nothing to do with the ballast. Basically, *some* of the 175's are finicky, very few of the 250's are, and the 400's seem even less so. The vast majority of the finicky ones quit being finicky after they burn in. Aquamedic is pretty good about replacing lamps that refuse to fire. If all that bothers you.. ushios work fine.. just not quite as nice as the AB's.

Got mine yesterday (400W) curious to know what color everyone gets and what ballast they use, even on the 250Ws. Mine is very yellow and although I like it very much it's not what I expected from a 13000K bulb.

Anyone have any 55W Actinic PCs (square pin) they want to unload?

I put mine in yesterday, it's my understanding that they can tale 100 hours to properly burn in. I have mine on a PFO HQI ballast - mogul. I did a side by side (before purchase) vs Ushio & like the AB better.
Packaging lists 10,000k & 13,000k kinda confusing. I like them better then the Ushio. Time will tell.

I'm running them on a Hamilton 250 TAR (I think it's TAR - they're not electronic) ballasts. I also have a pair of 40w NO actinics. This is the fourth set of lights I have run on these ballast - and in fact, these are the same as the ones I started out with. I'm really pleased to come back to what I started with.

Before this, I was running Iwasakis 6500K, which give a yellow light, as though I'd poured beer in the tank. Before the Iwasakis I ran a pair of Belgium 10Ks I bought from Inland Reef, which were very (too) blue, very little yellow. The colour I'm getting from the ABs is what I'm most pleased with, so I hope the colour doesn't change too much with burn in.

In both the ushio and AB the 400w are more yellow than the 250 and 175w, but the AB is generally whiter than the ushio.

Thanks Dave and Jeremy, I picked my bulbs up this weekend. I am sure that I will be as happy with these bulbs as my last set of ABs. Can't beat the price! :)
