I have a red ear slider if that counts. Had it for about five years now. That thing grows pretty darn fast. Needs it's third tank now...

Someone in my reefing club was giving away a so called painted turtle.
Me being a sucker, took it. It now lives in my pond outside. It turns out her son caught it in a river by their house but didn't want to let it go aftet they kept it a while.

So i'm not really sure what kind of turtle it is. Its cute though.

Just a heads up- becareful to wash your hands. When I was a kid I caught a red eared slider in pond in Michigan and being a kid went to eat right after- I caught Salmonella from the turtle and was horribly ill for 2 weeks. Turtle carry salmonella and you have to be very careful with them.

Not painted turtles, but i have many different types. currently it's diamondback terrapins, spotted turtles, 3 types of map turtles, and a wood turtle. The map turtles I have had for several years now and have grown from almost babies to about 4 inches.

They were my first obsession, and i'd still choose them over a reef tank any day. But luckily I don't have to choose.

Just because her son caught it in the river doesn't mean it's not a painted turtle, around here you see them in rivers, ponds, lakes, streams and even in water filled ditches.

oh yeah i know- its just that i was told it was a painted- i'm not sure. Everyone at the meeting kept asking if it was a painted, i kept saying i'm not sure:) I can't say for sure this is a painted turtle.
I didn't know he caught it till i picked it up. or else i might have reconsidered

I have a sucalta tortoise, and a box turtle.

Sucalta is only 3" and is 2 years old, I was told they reach over 100# and can live for decades.

Here in CA it is illegal to sell any turtle or tortoise under 4" across, because of health issues. The pet store we bought our tortoise from was fined heavily for selling them, now I only see large ones for sale, (not the 100+ # ones) I am working on a outdoor turtle/tortoise habitat, for the quickly growing tortoise.

My dogs are going to S%#$ when they have to share their yard with a 100# tortoise.
