My wife would like to have a word with you Marvin about telling me where a 300g tank was located...;)

I have the best wife, wheres the nearest flower shop?

It's what I wanted in the 1st place, I should have waited.

So, before I finalize the deal, anyone have any input on SeaClear?

It's 300g 8' x 24" front to back by 30" deep. 3/4" acrylic
1 overflow, and drilled on one side for another drain/return
Viewable on both sides, I'm going to hide the corner return on one side.
They have a lifetime no-leak guarantee.

Dave I will just tell her I didn't do it. You know, deny it to the end.

Thats my story and I'm stickin to it!

By the way there is a place called Frugal Flowers right up the road from the tank.

I'm learning the woman's way of explaining things...

but honey we're saving a lot of money buying this!!

better ask them to delete my 110g thread - I can print the evidence..!!

Thanks for the tip!

I have a 50G SeaClear. My advice: buy a glass tank. They're easier to clean.

I hate to be the one to say it but acrylic is a pain in the @$$ to keep clean and scratchfree. its a tough choice when your into the big tanks because of weight and all but i can't bring myself to get another one. tip: get a really nice magnet thats acrylic safe and clean, clean.....clean.

:D

look at my old 75g sea clear, it is a clear advertisement why somebody should by a glass tank...

it's for sale, any takers?

Yeah I know the cleaning is going to be so fun. I intend to get a magnet specifically for Acrylic. I've seen a lot of tips for keeping them clean. Like using a scraper on the bottom 3".

I have an acrylic tank and have no problems cleaning it. Just use utensils made for acrylic.

If you don't buy the 300 you're crazy.

Your wife will never let you do it again!;)

Yeah, I debated a glass, but the fact we can move this without calling 4 friends is a selling point. And the fact it's 1/2 the price of a new tank, and still a heck of a lot less then I was quoted on glass.

I have a 6' AGA 125 glass and a Sea Clear 5' 125. The seaclear is nice and light but I got it used with alot of scrathes, have to do the polishing routine, the all glass hasnt a scratch in 3 years.

Dave, give Chris at Turnpike Pet a call. He has a beautiful used
300 gallon for sale. He's got the tank (1" acrylic), the stand with
a built-in sump and the lighting.

Not sure what he's asking, but it's worth giving him a call.

Hi Dave,

He also has a couple of large acrylic tanks still shrinkwrapped.

I'm not sure what size those are, except they're very large !

Also, I think it's only a two hour drive, one-way.

I called Turnpike Pet. The tank they have is 1" 275g, customer has already stated he wants it, they will call him to confirm. It's like new - 8 months old w/stand, sump + not sure - maybe lights & possibly a chiller. Cost is around $3k - I think over my budget.
Looks like the 300g for me.
Thanx for letting me know, always worth a shot.

Dave, definitely follow-up on this, as I was there last night
and Chris has two other very large acrylic tanks ready to go
as well.

I've been reconsidering after hearing about variuos issues w/acrylic tank: cleaning - scratches is the biggest. I've put this on the back burner for now. Once summer starts to wind down maybe I'll pick it up again. Too few weekends to run around.
If I go glass I'm going to have to wait until after we move, unless I find a place to store it.
I'm also thinking that getting the 125 up & running once we move will allow me to start purchasing equipment - gearing up for a larger tank, and corals.
Then I can bring the larger tank online, let it cycle/stabilize & gradually transfer from the 125 to ??g tank.
Thanks Mike

I personally love acrylic. And I think you will too. Especially when trying to position it in place AND the safety factor.

The only real problem I have ever found with acrylic is that proper evaporative cooling is needed during the summer(or a chiller)if your house(or the room itself) doesnt have some form of AC to keep tank temps consistent, especially if using MH lamps. Some people complain that acrylic scratches too easy, but with a good compound scratch remover kit you can keep the tank looking brand new. Something I learned with glass is that when it gets a scratch, its there permanently. My old AGA suffered some scratches on the front glass that drove me nuts.

scuba_ dave since your not buying the 300G who is selling it.
And how much is it.Is it the one from all things fishy

I have to agree with MAS that acrylic is the way to go.

I love mine. I got it used and have had it 2 years and its still scratch free. At least none that I can see.

Reefreaper thats the one. I think it needs another overflow which is easy to install.

Thats another plus for acrylic is its easy to modify a tank if you want.

I don't think so. It is sitting on the floor at the store.

There is also one in DE - 300g w/stand & he was tossing in 3 pumps: (2) Dolphin, and an Iwaki 70/100? for $900!! I considered that too, the pumps alone are worth $900 new.

delawar where is that??And how many hours away?

tstone

Deleware is 6-8 hrs drive. Not bad for a 300 at 900 smackers.

I don't know, I kept asking him for a general area so I could figure out travelling time. I go to my brothers in Baltimore MD, 6-8 hrs depending on traffic & how fast you travel.

So figure maybe 5-7 hrs down, possibly longer coming back, you don't want to go too fast w/tank.
