Detailed Nitrate question...

I have been reading that LR is useful in reducing Nitrates. How does this occur. I know that LR is used for denitrifying which keeps nitrites in check, but how does it reduce Nitrate?

I may be wrong but I thought the Deep Sand Bed was what would help reduce nitrates, not Live Rock.

Or a Fuge with macro algeas, which eat up Nitrates.

Again I'm not 100% sure how the process works.

nitrification converts nitrites to nitrates, dentrification converts nitrates to nitrogen, it occurs in the oxygen deprived areas inside live rock and a DSB, so live rock will reduce nitrates if you have enough of it.
