I purchased a 40 dollar water filter system from a petstore that you hook to the faucet. I can't really buy a good one, I live in an apartment and don't really have the space yet. I noticed the other day that some sort of green granular pieices are showing up at the bottom of my storage cans, which I assume is carbon. How bad is it for that to go into my tanks?

Are you sure it is not just a DI unit? Then it is probally resen

I thought carbon was black when I was typing that. Actually now that you mention it I think it is a DI filter. Is that good/bad/ indifferent for my tank water?

Do yourself a favor and drop 150 on a good 100 GPD RO/DI unit.... It's small enough to fit under the sink in my dorm room so trust me you won't have a problem even in the smallest apartment...

It's probably DI resin. That's a good thing except the filter won't last very long. :( DI filters are designed to be run after a RO unit with cleans up most of the water. If I read your post correct, it looks like you're finding resin in your water, that's not good. :(
If this is the case, make sure you don't get any of this resin in your tank.
