How to take photos of your Reef?

I have a cheapie digital cam, a Fuji Fine Pix 1.3 Megapixel. Every picture I take of my reef always comes out dark and fuzzy. There are settings on it for white balance, etc... but i don't know how to use them. Any help out there?
