Lowes has a light for about 15bucks that is a 13w compact flourescent. It lights up my girlfriends 2.5g nano up fairly well. There are also replacement bulbs available that are 10k/03 in the 13w variety. So with maybe two or three of these over your 5g you should be in good shape. Heres a pic of the nano and light so you can judge for yourself.

We can keep the soft corals in there ok. the mushrooms are doing great and we just added some green star polyps. There are also some hermit crabs(zebra and blue leg) and 2 nassirous snails as well. Its too small to keep any fish weve seen so far in it... but as a coral tank its doing well. Ive thought about ripping the incandescent light out of the hood that came with it and adding this pc in. Would do even better if more of the light actually got to the tank.

Are you saying that a regular light bulb is all that you have in the tank and you still have growing corals?

Nono.. the light on the tank is the one in the picture.. 13w of PC. What im thinking about is gutting the hood that came with the tank(incandescent bulb) and fitting the PC light into it. I would need to disassemble the lamp to do it,but i dont thin it would be too difficult.
