I will post a couple of links from LiveAquaria as they had a picture of each of the mushroom corals, we are looking at.

My LFS says that it is possible for us to keep 2 of 6 different mushroom corals they have in stock, under my 40watt 50/50 bulb, IF (he emphized IF) we placed them within 12" of the light. He said that If i put a second 40watt on there that would be better and wouldn't ahve any trouble with them. I am not one to not have the right stuff first so i want to know from ya'll if this info is correct. I hope to be able to purchase new lights in a few months, but wife saw these mushroom coral and ask about them. TIA for any help.

Is it possiable? Yes. Will they be healthy and happy? Probably not. Would I spend the money on mushrooms or lights? Save your money and go for the lights.

I would assume that your tank is not very large since you only have a 20w bulb. Remember elephant ear mushrooms get large! Probably not a good choice for a small tank.

This was probably not the answer you wanted but I hope it helps.

Bryan Bryan, FYI.. The tank is a 55g and it was a 40w light system. I can actually make it into a 80watt system by adding my spare 40w light strip I have.
Your answer is a better answer than any other i got since i really dont want to buy one of them and have it not thrive or even be healthy. No need to buy it if i know it is gonna die.
Thanks for your opinion and if you feel that with the 40w or 80w I would be okay let me know. Thanks.

Years ago I had some shrooms in a 75 with 2 48" 40 bulbs and they eventually lost their color.

Okay I was able to get 2 light fixtures from a friend and they can each have 2-40w 48" bulbs in it. I got 2 of them which would give me 160w of light? I plan on having 2-blue actinic and 2-10k bulbs. Does this sound like it will be okay? ALso if so, will they be okay placed 20" away from the lights or should i stay with my original plan with middle of tank placement? TIA

Even though you have several 40 watt NOs I still would wait until you got VHO or PC. The 40 watter NO's just have no intensity.
