Is there a good way to attach a suction cup to glass in a permanent manner? Would covering the cup part in aquarium sealent work? This is fairly important as I want them to hold float switches, so if they fall I may have a flood. Thanks for any advice!

Have you considered a PVC or acrylic holder instead?
Suction cups are usually never permanent.

i wouldn't mount a float switch with suction cups,
it will eventually fail. (when no one's home of course).
i mounted mine on eggcrate, or you could use a pair
of old algae magnets,or acrylic, or.....

I am trying to mount the float switches from http://www.floatswitches.net/powerhead.html and unfortunately the base is smaller in diameter then the float, so it's difficult to glue it onto anything. The suction cup would be very handy to use for this reason. Any specific ideas on how to mount these?

Can't you zip tie it to some PVC or something?

that looks pretty similar to my grainger
float switch, i built a protective barrier
over mine to keep snails & coraline from
jamming it up. i took 1 1/2" PVC pipe cut
to fit over entire FS, placed a slip cap w/4
1/8" holes (allows water interchange) over
the bottom of the pipe, did the same for the
top but drilled a center hole slightly smaller
than the top of the FS, ran the wires up thru
the hole, got the FS to stay in the hole, put cap
on pipe. this i zip tied to eggcrate.
