Does this price sound right????

I was quoted roughly $22.00 per square foot for 1/2" plate glass cut to the sizes I needed w/polished edges.

Does this sound normal?

Yup- it is usually cheaper to buy a tank because they order in tons of glass at wholesale from Mexico. When I priced it out I was saving $5 buying an Oceanic 75 rather than building one.

Would that same rule apply if it was a custom size I wonder? I can understand it might be cheaper for production tanks, but I'm looking for a tank that is 24"x24"x30"high

I don't know, I can bet taht Oceanic would use 5/8" or 3/4" though for such a tall tank. Get the quote from Oceanic and then check what it would cost to build. I have yet to find it cheaper to build one even if labor was free.
