This one is for more of the nano guys ho cant fit a regular surface skimmer in their tank, ie. aquaclear, fluval. What you need are:

Marineland Pengiun (ditch biowheel)
2 count them 2 U-Tubes
one tube connector
Strainer

Attach the U-Tubes together in the picture shown below, the trim them so the strainer is 3/4 the under the water. And BAM! you got yourself a DIY Surface Skimmer.

Well,
How slick is that? Rick
And yet so devilishly simple

Simple, yet brilliant! Yes, it would be ideal for a nano.

OK - I am trying this with an Aquaclear for my 10 gallon. How do you deal with the air that is being pulled in as well?

Thanks for the inspiration...just trying to tweak it.

You can try putting it deeper in the water or some people say that you can try putting the strainer closer to the back of the aquarium. somehow this helps by not letting the skimmer make a vortex. HTH

Exactly what is the purpose of this device? What I see is a hang on filter with some plumbing modifications to input surface water into a container, then directly back into the tank with no means of organic removal. Am I missing something here? If I am, please enlighten me.
Very curious....

You usefilter floss or whatever means of filtering you want to take the film off the top and to create water movement in the tank. Any better?
