I'm looking for a camera for use at work...mostly outdoors at night or inside. I'm down to a couple-4 choices...the G3, the A70, matbe 1 of the Sonys and the 4300. Easy enough, the G3 right? I need the portability of being able to slip it into my pocket, the 4300 or one of the Sonys fit the bill nicely. I like the expandability of the G3, A70, and the 4300. The underwater housing of the A70 is nice too. Finally, the price...this camera will be in some hairy situations, and may take a bit of abuse. I wouldn't want to lose or break any camera, but it won't be as bad if it's a $300 Canon or Sony as opposed to a $600+ G3..even though that feels like the sturdiest of the bunch. Also, Sony's memory sticks bug me a bit, but I like the nightshot feature. ARRGGGHH...

what you need to do is get a tripod :p
generally speaking, shooting at night means bumping up the gain [iso] to get a fast enough shutterspeed. this means added graininess [noise]. some cameras are quieter than others- try looking at samples of long exposures on www.dpreview.com.
i'd imagine all the cameras are going to be pretty noisy but i thought the G2 did pretty well with long exposures (2-8 seconds). mabye you could compromise by getting a G2?

Look also at the olympus C5050, it is one of the few cameras with an f1.8 lens. Nice and quick, giving you a few extra stops of light.
