Ok guys I think I know the answer as to why on/off I have to battle hair algae. My question is in a tank with 1100 gallons that including the sump, how much flow does it need.

My current pump is putting out 59.6gpm or 3567gph. How much fore should I add? I will be adding this by installing a closed loop system.

Typically turnover is 10x the tank size. So if you have a massive sump, you still only count the tank size x 10.

yup.... looking at 10,000 GPH... @ minimum.

you might want to consider a couple Dolphin pumps... high turn over, low power consumption. just make a closed loop that sucks tank water and just pushes it right back in.

I have a dolphin pump and love it, so I guess I will just need to buy another.

Oh well the goes the electricity bill. (Yeah Right)

Just wondering, isn't your water level a little low in those gallery pictures??

I was also looking at a pic of the left side of your tank and it looks like you have little bubbles sticking to the front wall...is that what they are??

Nice tank!!

yes those pics were taken with the pumps off. And yes those were damn bubbles, drives me nuts I hate bubbles. When the pumps are on I have about a 1/2 to an inch gap.
