it's hard to put a number on this question.....

you need to make a list of all the fish you like.....many fish will elimnate themself from the list becuase they are not compatible...some fish require lots of open swimming space (tangs), while other (flame hawks) like to perch and watch the people outside of the tank to all the moving.

best advise, make a list of everything you want and then post that here....

if you already have fish in your tank, list them and post what you would like to add....

you can't toss out a number...because it all depends on the fish......

Hey Trip: Here we go.... 1-purple tang, 1-red sailfin tang, 1-yellow mimic tang, 2-larytail anthias, 2-linares wrasse, 1-3 line damsel, 1-marginatus damsel, 1-pj cardinal, 1-GS maroon, 1-maroon. They are all small, the largest being the purple & the sailfin about 3 1/2". I would like to add this Sohal tang I just purchased. My other choice is to put him in to my FO tank which is in the den. I'd prefered to have him in the livingroom where I can see him at all times.
So can I add him in?

That is a lot of tangs in one tank, especially since they are all different kinds of tangs.... not good

The Tang is real punk of a fish, complete with his own switchblade that he can whip out to cut up other fish... namely - other tangs.

brandy,

hope you don't mind. I like people's opinion too if I have too many fish already. Not familiar with the fish you list.

I have a 55 gallon reef tank
currently I have:

2 clown fish
2 mandarin
2 yellowhead jawfish
1 yellow tang
1 lawnmower blenny
2 small blue/green reef chromis

I agree with rcaston. That is already a lot of tangs in that tank. Sohal tangs are notoriously aggressive. Scott Michael's book states:

"It is not uncommon for this terror to kill its rivals in captivity".

I wouldn't add it.

Thanks RC, Brian... He will get placed with the other bad boys in the Den. I'll still see him everyday.;)

Great to have you aboard Oz.... No problem with me what so ever. It is always good to get other's opinion first. I learned the hard way not to long ago. Don't ever listen to the lfs guys before checking with the folks here.

Happy Reefing all........:fish1: :fish1: :fish1: :fish1: :fish1: :fish1: :fish1: :fish1:

Thanks Brian......
Yes they are Beautiful, that's why I couldn't pass him up. Especially the bargain price I paid for him, would you believe $44.99 - 5". He is simply gorgeous, to bad he has to go in the Den.

OZ : Have you gotten your Madarins to eat prepared food? That would be awesome, but if not I don't think a 55 could support two of them. Also, the tang might have to be put in a bigger tank in the future.

Just my opinions, somethings work differently for everybody
