What comapny makes the best standard flourecent bulbs, i hear people saying that some brands are better then others, in your openion what bulbs would you recommend, i have room for 4 - 24" bulbs for a total of 80 watts of light over at 29 gallon tank, what brand and what spectrum of bulbs would you recommend. for a FOWLR and possibly a few hardy low light coarals.

IMO, URI hands down makes the best FL lamps. For your tank I would use 2 Actinic, 1 AquaSun and 1 Actinic White. This will give you nice mix of spectrum and appear crisp white light.

I've tried most of the brands. URI is my answer as well.

Sence standard Flo and VHO bulbs cost almost exactly the same price, if i was to purchace an Icecap 660 ballast and 4 VHO bulbs at 75watts each for a total of 300 watts, in a 18" deep tank would i be able to keep just about any type of corals in there?

Agreed URI is the best and marinedepot is my preferred distributor because if you buy a min. of 6 at a time you get free shipping.

Softies & LPS do great. You'll bneed to be picky and research any SPS. I would suggest only buying SPS that have been propogated from a VHO system.

I tried a small SPS frag under 330watts of VHO and it didnt last very long maybe a week before it started turning white. I had it up high in the tank too.
But as for LPS under 300 watts VHO I havnt had any problems, most if not all LPS will do good with that amount of lighting.

OH and I would also agree with URI being the best.
