I finally got tired of cleaning the MTC HSA 1000 and put my money where my mouth is and bought a second CS8-4. I feel very strongly that Euroreef skimmers are better by virtue of their ease of setup and maintenance. I'll let y'all know how it works out:

of course this means my MTC HSA is for sale over here:

What's the little black box with the acrylic riser coming out of it in the sump(bottom right side)? Is that the bottom of the HSA?

Good move on the Euro-reef. On a per gallon of water processed I think they are hands down the best commercially available skimmer.

i too will have dueling euroreefs by the end of this week.
due to space constraints under my stand, i'll be adding another er cs8-2.

they are very easy to maintain.

I can say that I am the proud owner of a CS12-6. 4 Sedra 9000 redundant pumps! :p

Hey MAS, Do you have any action shots of the skimmer? Would love to see that sucker doing its thing.

Yeah, there will be some "action shots" upcoming in the next few weeks. The system is just getting plumbed now. Its a "small" 1500 system. THe skimmer will be pulling triple duty skimming 2 display tanks(280g and 60g),4 coral frag tanks,4 livestock tanks, and 4 very large liverock/live sand curing vats.

MAS, so you will be curing live rock in the same system as the display tanks? Won't that cause cycling problems?

MAS

There will be independant shut off valves where i can seperate the systems from each other especially during the curing process, but after the initial curing cycle there will always be 1000 or so pounds of cured on hand so that when i get 4-500 pounds of fresh rock, along with the large skimmer the curing time and ammonia, nitrite spike is reduced dramatically or eliminated all together. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention I also got a CS8-3 External unit on the way so skimming will continue even when the systems are sperated just in case its ever needed! lol

You've put some thought into this haven't you. :)

Tell ya what Steve. I'm thinkin about a CS12-1 External model to provide the skimming and "circulation" to a 10g nano tank! Great minds think alike!

Why not run dual 12-1's? Thats 4 sedra 5000's all drawing less than 180 watts combined! Serious redundancy too!

Either way you wont have to worry about dissolved organics in your tank! :eek2:

cheers
