Hi myth,

The only thing I can think of is stray current in the tank. You may want to try a grounding probe.

Thank you,
Tony

P.S. A maroon and perc SHOULD not get along together, and if yours do, eventually the maroon will get too big and dominate the perc to death, so when you get your upgrade tank for the tang, you should split them up. Perhaps the maroon in the new big tank with the tang as it is the bigger fish.

thanks tragic..its funny my perk and maroon sleep in the same cave..i have never seen them fight or chase..but the maroon attacks me everytime i put my hand in the tank..i have had thease two fish for about 6 months got them together ..i had a sea bay in the tank and the perk would chase the maroon around if it went near its seabay funny fish..and i will get a grounding probe tommarrow and check for stray current..thanks ..any idea aout the webs..i have seen lots of baby snails in my tank latley their the kind with no shell could they be causing the problem and if they are how do i get rid of thease things they only come out at night..

Hi myth,

The grounding probe isn't for testing current, all it does is introduce a conductive surface, the probe, to you water column, and then ground to your power outlet. From what I understand it must be a truly grounded outlet to work properly, and it will close the circuit of current in your water and send it to the ground. I really have no experience with it, my tank has no probe, but I have read that electric current can cause the erosion on fish. Do a search for grounding probes, and read up.

As for the clowns, again I have no experience, but I love clowns and have asked about them and the consensus is eventually one will dominate the other, which will eventually be the maroon, and will likely kill the perc. You should ask around in the anemone and clownfish forum, great advice there, JHardman particularly seems to be an expert, at least he offered the most advice when I was doing my research.

I have no idea about the “webs if you have baby snails, it could be some type of larva or something. If that is the case, it should be harmless, and provide good nutrients to your filter feeders.

Thank you,
Tony

My only guess as why the tangs fin is ripped is that since he is in such a small tank, he prolly miss judged a corner or something and ripped it by mistake. He dosent realize he is out growing that tank. This is also putting stress on him, this is why he is loosing color, he is letting you know he is not a happy camper. You might start to notice cuts on him if he continues to swim like that. Try to build your new tank as soon as you can. Deceide which one of the clowns you like the most, split them or give 1 of them away. I know its hard but chances are the marron will kill the perc, its in the maroons nature. As for the tree, what are your calcium, alk, and especially magnesium levels? I had the same issue with a candy cane, it grew cotton like on all polyps, cob webs, then one of the polyps got white. I took it back to my LFS cause I thought it was dead, The guy told me it wasent and placed it in his tank in the store. In 4 days it was looking much better. He tested my water for CAL, ALK...everything fine, he then told me..have you checked MAG, I had never, when he did check it was very low. I dosed MAG and in 2 weeks, the levels were up and I brought home the candy cane and its doing wonderfully. HTH.
