No, If you wash it, you're getting rid of the superfine grains that make it so good...

Ryan

I agree with rbaker, don't rinse it. Most of the benifical sized particles will get rinsed out.

Your water cleared up already????

The southdown I used took nearly 3 days just until I could see the back of the tank. I had about 3" of water when I added mine.

Any little change in the rock work clouds the tank for at least 8 hours. Not to mention the self-replicating problem of blowing the "dust" off of the rock. Sump and refuge is coated also.

A budy of mine is having a terrible problem. He had a full tank - no sand and added 230 lbs. terrible foam and "sludge"

Well, after being mean, and telling you to do a search...I will say that this can't be southdown if it cleared up over night. I believe it takes most tanks a week or two to clear up if I am not mistaken.

Do a search and you'll find out how long it really takes to clear up. :D

tonytooth, ahh yes the incredible turnaround. I never saw it coming.;) I am going to do a search.

Oh and by the way, not enough,SD takes more than a day to settle, you don't have SD.

We don't know yet that it's not SD sand, he could have had another way of adding it, such as adding it VERY VERY slowly, or placing some type of object voer the sand while he filled the tank.

Iam sorry it is tropical play sand from home depot. I added it to my 55 refugium & let it sit for 3 hours then i slowly added it to my 170. When i woke up everything was crystal clear. I have used the oolite years ago & that was a big mess, this sand seams a little more course. Maybe iam wrong, Iam sure i will find out LOL
IE: doing searches i am not on my pc enough to relize at the spur of the moment that i could have done a search. But thanks for waking me up now iam a searching for more money. Anyone?
