Honestly if you can get new SD from HD, I would not risk it. If you can't then you may want to rinse it. Is your rain of the evil acid variety? From what I have read you will probably be fine if it is a new tank (since you can test for just about everything before you risk anything living), but if you are dumping this into a tank full of life I wouldn't risk it to save $50 or whatever.

Do they sell southdown in Boston? I wonder if I can carry 3 bags it on a plane between my wife and I. I live in Nebraska and have a new tank that I am preparing to setup. I will be there on June 1.

Actually, it’s more like $10.00 I paid about $5.00 per bag in the Baltimore area.

Yeah I meant the difference between not be able to get new SD, and having to buy the online expensive stuff which I think is usually at least $20 for a 40 lb bag. If you can get new SD, then I would not risk it at all.

Quincy Home Depot had 4 pallets, down to 2 recently. 50 lb bag is $6.99, may have to pay extra baggage fee at airport.
