how fast would a 1.5-2" maxima clam grow? i understand that a clam that small does not use light for energy but rather more on feeding with DT"s. It would be in my 2.5 with 3x13w pc's and proper calcium levels. See if i could have it stay under 3 inches for a few months i would be happy and them trade it in to my LFS for credit. I dont see this as a waste of money but rather the enjoyment of such a wonderful creature.

[would i be correct in saying that at about 2.5 to 3 inches the clam need light more than feedings?]

even though small i think it will require more light than that...i have had mine under 96 watts of pc in a 10 gallon and that seems to be jsut about enough. they might feed on DT's but understand that they get their good color from the zooxanthele in their mantle. if it didnt die from the lack of light it would probrable look pretty crappy....all in all.... get more lights

Pretty fast, maybe 4 months. I had a Squmosa in a 2.5g for 2 months. Please, reconsider a Maxima and do a Squmoasa. Maxis are ALOT more delicate.

BTW, how are you maintaing calcium levels?

At about 3inches, Id trade it in. or if it shows signs of stress.
