I checked it out. Pretty good deals on fish. They had ALOT of fish...i mean ALOT! If you are looking for gorgonians or fish, check it out. Their corals needed some work, but I may have caught them on a bad day.

I actually went to this store about 7 months ago before I had a tank. They did have quite a bit of stock. How is the quality of everything everyone has purchased there? It is about 5 mins away from my house. I live in New Port Richey.

Would also like to get to know some other local reefers to keep in touch with, etc. So if anyone else lives in the New Port Richey, Port Richey, Hudson, Holiday area let me know.

Will be checking out the TBRC also and probably start attending.

I live in Port Richey and have been there a few times. They do keep a nice selection on fish and inverts but there rock and coral needs help.
Their prices are just a BIT lower than a normal LFS and in some cases when I asked for a price I thought they were on crack, dont get me wrong everything I have got from them was healthy and in good shape but unless you live in the area or are looking for a fish you cant find its not worth the travel IMO

Yeah I just went there Wednesday evening to check it out again and wasn't impressed. They did not have a very big selection of fish. Had quite a few inverts. By the way the place looks I would be very skeptical about the quality of their water, fish, etc. But I guess if you've purchased from them before without a problem it might be OK. It just makes you wonder that if they keep there shop as un-tidy as they do, what else do the slack on? Who knows, just my 2 cents. I'd rather drive the extra 20 mins to Fish and Other IchThy Things and Marine Warehouse in my opinion.

Speaking of other local stores, there is also a place in Port Richey on 19 in the Outback/Carrabbas plaza. The business is for sale but there tanks are also always very clean and the store is very neat. Not sure of their knowledge, but it looks good.

Also on 19, in Holiday, is another store on 19 across from the Publix in the little strip mall. Can't remember the name but they seem half-way knowledgable and have a small selection of decent stock.

Ive picked up some fish from there....its good and bad.

Good part-
CHEAP! Really cheap fish....
Selection- they have alot of fish, inverts

Bad part-
Pretty messy- it reflects poorly on the quality of goods.

Got a Dwarf Angel for pretty cheap, as well as a Christmas Wrasse and a chainlink eel. All are doing well.
Did lose 2 Creole Fish right away, im assuming due to poor acclimation on their part. These fish died w/in 24 hours....and i never have issues like that in my tank.

So....if you are willing to be picky go and take a chance...go check em out.

BTW the corals looked very poor. They did have some Fire Coral, but not much else that looked healthy enough to go in my tank.

The store on US19 by the Outback is called MiniReef. They do keep it clean most of the time but have a very small collection of fish and inverts most of the time and no live rock or sand to speak of. The owner doesn't know ANYTHING about saltwater tanks so don't even bother to ask. Their prices are also high and they carry very little in the way of lighting and filtration. They do carry saltwater (spg .22) and RO/DI water for .99 per gal. but you need to bring your own jugs they do sell 5gl jugs there for $5.99 ea.
If you know what you need and your in the area stop in and see what they have but on a scale of 1 - 10 I would rate this store at about 5.
I live about 2 miles from the store and I use them only for food and sometimes water.

Yeah.. I noticed the owner doesn't seem to know much at all. There is a younger guy that works there, tall guy, that seems to do all the salt stuff there. I actually purchased all my live rock from this store. They had a real nice selection when I started my tank about 2 months ago and the price was right. I believe it was $3.99 or $4.99/lb. When I was in there this weekend the sign on the live rock tank said $5.99/lb and it was empty, lol. You are right, the selection is not vast, but the store at least has a neat appearance. I would definitely feel more comfortable buying from there than Aquatic Visions.

After I spend some gift certificates I got for my birthday for Marine Warehouse I think I'll be solely shopping at Fish and Other Ichthy Things in Oldsmar. Seems to be the most knowledgable and clean store around.

Stopped in to check out Marine Wholesale in Port Richiey on 8-1-3. The fish selection was almost non existent. They may have been due for a new shipment, but I don't know. Stopped into Fish And Other Ichthy Things next. WOW, I was impressed with the cleanliness of the tanks, the great selection and the service. I had been shopping at Marine Warehouse in the past but I think I have found a new LFS to shop at.

Aquatic Visions is not a pet shop. It's a marine wholesale store that also sells to the public. If you need to buy from a clean store and can afford to pay HIGHER PRICES then dont shop there. If your like me and can't afford to then shop here. The selection may not be that great because it does not sit around for more then 2/3 days tops. The stock changes every day.Just like the tide!

Just keep in mind that all that stock turnover = higher mortality rates. You are much more likely to get a sick or diseased fish from that type environment. In the long run the cost is probably about the same either way.
