Mini Pendant problems

I recently purchased a Hamilton Metal Halide with mini pendant. The pendant has a hammered aluminum reflector, and this is where I believe the problem lies. It scatters light all over the room - at night, the entire room is lit up like high noon. My LFS has metal halides over their tanks, and don't seem to have this problem, they also don't use the hammered aluminum reflectors. Does anyone else run into this problem, and if I switch to a mini-pendant without the hammered reflector, will this problem disappear?
