Anyone ever heard of a carpet anemone (about 8") eating a diamond goby (about 4")

My diamond goby has not been seen for about 24 hours and a quarter sized pile of anemone poop is laying next to my anemone. It appeared to have tiny bones in it.

not specifically a diamond goby, but carpets are one of the more deadly anemones. imho a species tank is almost a necessity for these guys unless you are rich.

Carpets are infamous fish eaters. About the only fish that are safe with them are clowns. Do a search and you will find a number of stories of lost fish to carpets on this forum.

Carpet Anemones are the most dangerous anemones. I would think it was the cause of your gobies dissapearence.

I have heared or and seen carpet anemones eating much larger fish such as tangs, puffers and angels, even though they were in perfect health.

Sorry for your lose.

The worst carpets are S. haddoni (or saddleback anemone). These also tend to be the most common carpets sold.

Anemones are fascinating creatures. They also tend to be moderately difficult to maintain. If you are being successful, consider that you are doing some right :)

If you still want to keep the carpet anemone, consider doing a couple of things. First, you might buy a clownfish for the anemone. Clowns are very territorial, and will chase all other fish away from the anemone, which in this case is a good thing. Second, I would recommend you have some sort of night-lighting (if you don't already). I have found that lighting an anemone tank at night (with a 5 watt bulb or something) helps cut down on night-time disappearances.

Good luck!

Thanks for the responses. I do have a clown that lives in the anemone. I have also had a sick Tang eaten by this same carpet. Thats 50 bucks of fish so far.
