Should I remove the algea from the back wall of my tank?

You could remove it but I was lazy and just got things to eat it- Emerald crabs worked great and my yellow tang loves to pick at the walls. The snails are also a good choice.

If it looks ugly-- sure.
Otherwise I've found it makes one more place for pods to hide. Plus I figure if some algae is growing there it is taking out nutrients that otherwise could feed algae on the rock etc.

I don't touch the back of my tank, I let my snails feed off it. It sounds like you have coralline algae growing on your glass, you may want to scrape that off with a razor blade, I hear its kinda hard to get off if you leave it on there for any length of time.
