I wanted to know what people think about this issue.

I've heard that when you set up a new tank, you shouldn't add the skimmer for like 4 months. (Using fully cured rock)

I've also heard it should be added right away.

Which do you think?

I run the skimmer while rock is curing. Some people may disagree, but thats me. Id vote with David, get the skimmer running.

Always good to have the skimmer running. especially if you are in the midst of a sandstorm. I usually keep my bacpac on and just put the cup REALLY high. Any foam i get is ultrathick, but i think the extra agitation and aeration greatly reduces the time to settle. Granted, this has just been my exp and is purely without scientific, experimental backup. But, then, so is about 80+% of what you get in the hobby. Just the nature of the beast.

I just finished cycle about a week ago. Had the skimmer going since day 2. Tank never clouded, LR never stunk up the place and my diatom explosion lasted for about 3-4 days, and now the snails are beginning to win the battle and tank looks great.
Good Luck

Who told you not to add it to a tank for 4 months? Thats not right. IMO you should add it today, right now.

I'm not saying that I use this practice, I just said I heard it and wanted to get some opinions.

I don't know if I should say where I read it because they get bashed an awful lot!
