I got an Australian copperband butterfly via mail order on Saturday. He looked healthy upon arrival, but shortly after being introduced to my tank he started to hover lopsided and spend a lot of time in one place at the top of the water column. He doesn't swim much, and I haven't seen him eat (There's loads of aiptasia for him to feast on--it's conceivable he eats when I'm not looking.) I thought for sure he was a goner Saturday night when he was at the top of the tank with his nose pointed down.

But here it is Tuesday. I keep expecting him to be dead when I wake up, but he's still hanging on. I almost think he's starting to look better. He's hanging out at the bottom more frequently.

My yellow tang continues to harass him whenever possible, which isn't helping.

Any ideas what to do? I did a 20% water change last night. Has anyone ever seen a fish recover from this?

Water params:
Temp 80
Salinity 1.022
Nitrates, Nitrites, Ammonia, Phosphates 0
pH 8.3

Is it possible for you to catch and quarantine him?

I would try to separate the fish into a quarantine tank, make sure there is plenty of aeration, and feed mysis. I have seen quite a few copperbands look like this, usually dosn't go well.......

Good Luck,
