could you please refer to the spec sheet that came w/ your mag 18 and tell me what size the manufacturer recommends for piping diameter to achieve optimal flow rates. i was told that it was 1.5" but i would like to verify this.
thanks

It make you wonder why they put a 3/4" npt outlet if they are going to recommend 1.5" pipe. 1" should be fine and 1.5 would be a little better.

i will most likely go w/ 1" as the pump is not my main means of circulation. i am just curious to know what is listed on the spec sheet.

this the inlet/outlet size of the pump but is no indication of what diameter size the manufacturer recommends. for instance, my mag 9.5 has the same inlet/outlet but on the spec sheet, 1" diameter is recommended.
thanks for trying

Curiously, PondUSA (from highlander's link) states:

"Pond-Mag 18: 1" tubing fits right on pump discharge, no adapters required."

The MAG 18 as we know has a 3/4" outlet, so that's a little contradictory. Also, it appears the 1 1/4" recommendation is PondUSA's. Is there any verification that that is Supreme's recommendation too?

i think they are just suggesting that if you plan on using flex hose for ease of installation a 1" tube can fit over the 3/4" outlet. of course, you can adapt the output to any size diameter with the appropriate fittings.

I believe that they are made by the same company to the same specs. I have both a Pondmaster 5 and a Supreme 5 and the pumps are identical except for the fact that the Pondmaster versions have the hose fitting on the input. Even the UL cert is the same.

mags 9.5 and up require 1.5" id pipes to achieve the listed flow rates ..the mags 5& 7 simply reccomend "large diameter" tubing for max flow.

I recently bought one. They recommend 1.5" although a 1" (inner diameter) flex hose fits it snugly. Guess they recommend getting a fitting to step it up to 1.5 to maximize the flow.

Try MAG's home page.
Danner Manufacturing makes the MAG's / PondMasters.

http://www.dannermfg.com/pondmaster/index.htm

I like the detailed charts they have for all their pumps with flow rates vs. head height.

Also, I've written emails from this web site and have gotten responses within 48 hours or so.

Hope this can get you to your answer.
