MH w/ 400W HPS Ballast (Hydrofarm)??

I have inherited a used Hydrofarm super grow wing 400W HPS ballast and reflector. I would like to know if I could use a 400W MH bulb in place of the HPS bulb.


I plan to use it for:
55gallon reef only tank

400W MH bulb recommendation?

The only lamp you should use is a Ushio 10KK or a conversion lamp. The HPS ballast meets the operating specs but doesn’t meet the starting and OC voltage for the 10,000K lamp.

The only problem you might run into later on is difficult lamp starting.
