I just found this short 15 Fish Identification Quiz, and thought some of you eagle eyes might like to test your knowledge. I scored 12 out of 15. Some fish I've only read about but never seen them... :sad1:

I only missed the trigger. I knew it wasn't a black trigger, but I haven't ever seen a picasso trigger like that. I have seen juveniles to adults, but never in that color.

Nobody asked me how I found that link in the first place. I was trying to find out what an Achilles Tang looked like, and that little quiz showed up in Google on the first page of links.

Btw, I'm pretty sure that was one of the fish I got wrong. ;)

One of the fish sure looked like it was in the angel family, and yet it wasn't even on the list of options. Did anyone else notice that?

I can't believe that "fishguru" didn't get every answer right! (prod-prod!) ;)

Btw, I came across an incredible thread in the photography forum that was started well over a year ago. Macro shots galore. I've begun to save pictures of various creatures to use for ID purposes. If you've not seen this 21 page thread yet, you might check it out. I got up to page 10 late last night, but the server did that daily backup thing again and I had to turn away from RC yet again.

Why can't that thing run around 2pm daily?

11/15.....That was fun.......Something like this could make a good addition to RC. Then we can rate members on scores as apposed to number of posts...... (just kidding)

14-15. i only knew the parrotfish as an 'Uhu.

also, isn't the trigger mislabeled? the rectangle trigger is the true humuhumunukunukuapua'a. the picasso is something different and not in the picture.

12/15 ... surprised myself although some you can just narrow down. Now if there wasn't multiple choice I probably would have only had 3-5 if I had to have the correct full name.

I missed the parrotfish only. It sure looks like it would be labeled the 'star' name instead of 'bullethead' parrotfish.

But I surprised myself even, and admittedly, some were educated guesses, but some were very obvious.

all proud :D

13/15 - guessed on most of them by seeing what features they had that could make someone name them that (ie. Convict Tang- black bars)

That's the Hawaiian version of the picasso-known by the Hawaiian name of humuhumunukunukuapuaa. The picassos that are most common in the states are from Tahiti.

You're absolutely right about that! It's a humuhumu, but on the mainland, picassos are sold as humuhumu, but they spell it huma huma.
