I have 65 gal reef with 4 55w pc'2 and 2 no's. I have lots of branch built up high. If I place SPS up high on the branch (about 6" from the light) will this be sufficent to sustain growth. Water parameters are excellent.

I had a 29 with about 165watts of light that housed some SPS. They all did good under the PC's for a year and then I moved everything into a 50 with MH. I would try and get 5-6watts/gal for your brighter colored SPS ( Purple blue pink ect. ) Most SPS keepers would probably say 7-8watts/gal. With your current set up I dont think you would have a problem keeping the more drab colored acro's and Montiporas. Here is a pic of my 29 with 2-65watt PC's and 2-17watt. ZooMed bulbs

I kept SPS and clams under PC for quite a while with very good success. Great color and very good growth

55 RR, 125# LR, 520W PC combination of 50/50, actinics and 10,000K

i have a 55g reef with the same 4 55 pc (2-10k and 2-actinic) i have just started to add sps (acro, montipora, hydnophora, and scroll coral) all are doing really well. as long as you have adequate water flow and they are up at the top of the tank you shouldnt have a problem.

I have a 100 gallon with 4x96 watt PCs (2-10k and 2-actinic 03s).
My SPS are doing great, though I expected the green slimer to do much better.
Here are some pics.

Thank you very much. It looked a little disarranged to me because the picture was taken after I had removed some of the live rock to put into the 50. The 29 just got to cluttered so I upgraded a little. Im glad you all like it though, I was very proud of it being my first tank EVER! It was a lot of work and I learned a lot on the way. If anyone would like I could post pics of the 50 that now houses all of the 29. Oh and sorry for sounding like Im stealing this thread.

The downside to this arrangement is the unatural look that the bulbs produce. If you don't mind that, you should be fine.
Nothing beats MH for natural appearance IMO.

Here are pics of my 65 with 4x96 PC's (2x10kk,2xact03's)

and then with 2x175MH 10kk, 2x95 VHO actinics

Very different look, but I will admit, the 4x96 was plenty for good colorration and growth, but even more so with the halides.

I need to get a newer pic.

Right now I have 220w of pc lighting on my 65 gal. I am purchasing a VHO lighting system from an RC member which holds 4 95w bulbs. I realize that the VHO sytem has much more wattage, but do you think this system will be a lot brighter than my PC's? Anyone?
