This algae is the second bloom. The first suddenly died off. It was very simple to remove. This algae is horribly difficult to remove. I have to scrub with a acrylic tank safe brillo. IT istill barely removes it. I have a deep tank and cannot reach to the bottm unless I use an extension. Any ideas? Please Help!!

Hi scottseidner,

It looks like diatom algae but usually diatoms are easy to wipe off so I'm not sure if I'm any help. Do you see any snails or other animals eating this algae? Do you use RO/DI water? Do you test your water for nitrates, phosphates, and / or silicates? Those 3 things are usually what feeds algae the most.

Thanks for responding. This algae is extremely tough to remove. I have to scrub it like mad, and I am worried about scratching my tank more than it already is.

Oh boy it looks like someone took a dump on the side of your tank. LOL Try some snails, they keep my tank very very clean.
