What happened to my halimeda? A friend of mine gave me a ziplock of it, and I stuck it in my sump. Got home from work and half of it turned white during the day?
Is this what it does when the lights are out, or do I need to yank it?

It's normal for it to turn white at night and it will color back up after the lights come back on. Halimeda uses a lot of calcium though so watch your ph. When it dies just leave it in the tank it doesn't seem to hurt anything. The only thing about it is there is nothing that I know of that will eat it.

That's what happens when mine dies.

Halimeda sucks up calcium like CRAZY. Are you keeping up with the calcium? That's a very large patch of it.

It does lose color in the dark, it turns white, but colors up again under the lights.

I second, or third that, I had problems keeping my calcium up until I removed my halimeda.
Now no problems.

If anyone is wondering what eats halimeda, tuxedo urchins love it.
