I put a fairly large Naso Tang in last week that developed an infection. Before I could pull him, my Sebae ate him. This is a big fish! Am I going to have to worry about this guy eating everything in my tank?

Wow! Must be a huge sebae! I have never lost a single fish to a sebae anemone. My troubles are always with haddonis. I won't put a haddoni in my tank without a clown pair, and even then I am taking my chances :)

I forgot to mention that it took down 6 Bangai Cardinals.

are you sure it ate him. I mean did you actually see it go into its mouth, or is it just missing. Anemones will eat fish if they are weak and sick, and happpen to wander into the anemone

I thought that the Sebae was splitting since he was strangely bunched up. It wasn't until a couple of hours later that I saw the carcass coming out of its mouth that I figured it out. Its definitely increased in size as well. Has anyone done a study on how fast anenome can translate food into biomass?

Anenomes are known to eat fish that are dying or injured. If your fish was healthy it probably would have not been eaten.

I disagree with this.

Many anemones (especially crapets) will take anything they snatch. Of course, the fish could have been sick, but I have read posts here on RC were people's anemones ate there healthy fish.

you are right that carpet anemones do eat fish, but a fish has a much greater chance of getting eaten if it is sick

The Naso Tang was new to the tank and under stress. He wasn't eating well and was probably weak. The cardinals were eating well and happy. Its been suggested that cardinals aren't good companions for large anenomes, but I've seen a lot of tanks with both in them.
