If you have OUC expect to be gouged. They rip me off to the tune of $400/month average. Can't say exactly how much yours will vary from mine; I figure about $20 a month for both of my tanks.

What do you pay per kilowatt hour from OUC?

Here are the rates from Florida Pwer & Light Company

2.7333 cents per KWH

Plus

4.1116 cents per KWH for the first 750 KWH and
5.0460 cents per KWH for over 750 KWH

Which must be about right because they say that a customer that uses 1,000 KWH will pay $76,85 per month.

FPL info on 2003 rates (http://www.fpl.com/news/news_and_notes/pdf/residential_rates_english.pdf)

Just the electricity is about 8.5 cents per for over 1000KWH. Water and sewer are included in the same bill, which IMO is also high.

Wow my electric bill was aroung $110 last month. Even with adding the 40 gal with the pc's. It goes up to $180 when my chiiler and AC have to run. I think I would move if I had a $400 electric bill.

Chad,

I would cut down on showers, turn off your hot water heater, and stop using the oven. But whatever you do, don't cut the power to the tank off. :D

Seriously, this is one reason why I am thinking of Geothermal cooling in the future. You can also do a bunch of other things to save power at your home. Chad, $400 is extremely high. Check this out. - R

Thing is, many of my neighbors also have high bills. Granted our homes were built in the 50's and 60's and aren't as tight as new homes, but still. What gets me is some people in other areas have bigger homes than we do with 4 or more people living there and yet have lower utility bills. It's not just me - my sister lives off Conway in a newer but similar sized home and her bill last month was over $500.00.

Again I would just move. Either everyone will move to bankrupt them or more likely they are driving you all out to make a new developement.

Dont feel bad. In California our rates starts out at $.13 per kilowatt hour and if youre over the baseline (easily reached with reef tanks) its $.26 per kilowatt hour.

Wow! :eek2: Well, all I can say is I feel a lot better about mine now that I see yours Chad. That's a pretty jagged pill to swallow every month. My average bill is very similiar to Aqua's including the peak periods.

Florida Power here...oops, I mean Progress Energy.

I'd have to sit in the dark and build an outhouse to get a bill under $200. Actually last month it was only $300, which to us is good news. :crazy1:

I would have to say that my bill is about the same as Aquaman's and Mako's. I have blown in insulation in the attic and I think the walls as well. I have a digital thermostat that adjusts the temp automatically. When I'm at work the house stays about 82 and about 4:00 it starts cooling it to a comfortable 79 degrees. I leave it running 24/7. Chad there has to be some kind of home improvement you can do to lower that bill. Blown in insulation, roof vents, hot water heater timer, weatherstripping, using the oven less. In my opinion, if you spend a couple of hundred bucks to help correct the situation, you may get it back in a couple of electric bills. I hate to see money waysted - especially my own. - R ;)
