I recently had a colony/carpet anemone pest problem that I had to clear up. It had started with a few cute little guys, to nearly covering all the tops of my l.r.

As much as they bothered my brittlestar/shrimps/snails/crabs & myself, my perculas loved the carpet affect. Now that I have nearly cleared up my pest problem (the fight carries on) they have nothing to rub up against together.

I feel terrible, they would swim side by side or straddled  on it NOW they have nothing. My tank has been up for 1.5yrs (much planning before that) and I always planned on getting some corals (had a bta but it had a protruding mouth & didn't survive) &/or anenome. Recently it was brought again to my attention how much bta's move about, and should not be mixed with corals.

It would be nice if I could find out what host your clowns (percs ;) prefer. Maybe not *host* but replace what mine have lost. Also just curious what is the temp you keep your tank? Do you lower it by a few degrees in the winter?

I've got one pair of Perculas happily housed in a large Colt Coral and another pair has made its home in a forest of pulsing Xenia.

In the past, one pair tried to host in a Hammer coral, but the coral didn't thrive (maybe that was why) and it died.

Mine prefers live rock. Seriously, they spawn frequently on the side of a rock. I have xenia, frogspawn, and toadstool, but they don't seem to care. I keep my temperature at 80F. However I do feel that any of the above will make good homes for the clownfishes.

How about Star Polyps! Mine will nesstle into just about anything. They were happy in a hammer coral -- but when he passed on, they moved to the star polyps.

Finally! Something good has become of star polyps!

Now, if only they'd "make the babies"!

That is sad, hammers are one of my favorites.

One more thing :D  if you have heard of any problems (ie. Reef Cherie, hammer) please advise. Thx a ton

clowns hosting in lps corals such as frogspawn, bubbles, hammer will usually cause death to the coral. Clowns are hard on their hosts and corals are no exception. The polyps of the corals never open as full and soon they just seem to die, if a clown is hosting in it

I knew of someone who had a bubble that the clown had adopted and the bubble coral thrived with him in it.:D

The only thing my pair host in is the live sand at night when they sleep. They dig a big hole.

I had a Clownfish from the red sea that just loved my alveopora during the day and then at night he would sleep in one of my xenias.

Mine use to rub on the sand till the pest anemones got out of control, then they rub on it. After ridding myself of 99.5% of the pests they now are back to rubbing on the sand DIGGIN A BIG O'HOLE

Here is what it looks like

http://www.wetwebmedia.com/otherpstanemfaqs.htm

the pic of that little/harmless rose colored anemone. Want some:p hehe

I should point out that they didn't get much larger than a dime and had insane multiplication. The larger they grew they because increasingly uglier!!!!no longer cute/pretty at all. It looked like someone had cover all my l.r. with a pink shag carpet. DON"T think this looked nice.

Thats them they are the devil. You said you killed them right? How did you do it? I have some the size of a silver dollar. I might just take those rock out and let them die over a few months if nothing else works. Lugols iodine kills them but its so concentrated you can only use so much at a time. Kalk won't go thru the needles i have i killed a bunch will hyper salinity but boy did that stink. It about 200# of coraline covered live rck and i have mushrooms attached:confused:

Well let me start by saying that I went to the LFS the rock was purchased from and her advise (which she says she does) was to remove the rock one by one and chip them off with a hammer & chisel!!!! and I DID.

I got sick of looking at my aquarium looking like that and it only got worse SO I spent 8+hrs one Saturday doing it. Two days later a couple of dozen LITTLE BUGGERS had pulled into the rock and were still there. I was fed up..........

I found this site and posted a question and Anemone(Moderator) responded to my post

http://archive.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=156966

it worked. I didn't do all at once (was afraid to offset the water chemistry) so the fight continues.

We both thank Anemone ;)

you know I always thought the girl at the LFS was knowledgeable but after my last few experiences....well let's just say her ideas/suggestions/identifications (of said pests) should be researched 100x before believing it 100% :(

I tried to search the web on them to no avail till I came here. Yahoo is great but unless you have specific names of stuff you don't always get great results.
