Ok boys and girls, I'm getting a new 120g tank on thurs. and I would like to start setting up a sump/refugium to go under my tank. questions are as follows:

1) what kind of flow rate do I need. Not keeping SPS and I want
2 returns (if possible?) 1 up high and 1 low behind rock wall.

2) Tank is not and will not be drilled so what is the best HOB
overflow to use(gph and brand)?

3)stand will be 36" tall and 48" long and 24" wide, what size
tank would be best(fit right)?

4) What size pump and internal or external?

5) what and how much plumbing?

6) What are some good, cheap baffle ideas?

I know this is asking alot but I also know all you good hearted reefers out there won't mind helping my clueless, newbie *****:D

Thanks in advance, Tony

PS. how much light for macroalgae, etc?

I like the CPR Overflows.

As a fellow Kansas reefer I'll give you some good advise, Do not use a CPR overflow (do a search on CPR overflow and you'll figure out why). I have 2 HOB overflows on my 58 one Lifereef and one a DIY copy, they work great.
That being said I wouldn't set up another tank without having it drilled and installing an internal overflow.

Pump - You're going to be limited my the HOB overflow so maybe a mag 7 or similar flow pump. Make up the rest of the flow with a closed loop using an Iwaki or an AM 3k.

Plumbing - a combo of flex tubing or spa tubing and PVC matched to the size of your pump and overflow.

wickerj, on the closedloop would I just need to run 2 pipes over the back and down behind the rock or what?
