I have a fairly large female clarki clown (3inchs) in my tank. It is semi agressive to my domino damsel and coral beauty. I was wondering if anyone knows how much more agression it will show if i added a male clarki clown in the tank. It is a 30gallon tank with the domino damsel, coral beauty, six line wrasse, christmas wrasse. please reply if you have any ideas....:D

Hi

Chances are if you add another clown you will do it in a manner to form a pair bond. When clownfish are paired they can get more protective of their territory especially if they spawn and have a nest to protect.

Not sure what size your tank is but I have a 3"+ female and recently added a 1.5" juvenile. In that tank are a 3 stripe damsel and a half-black angel. My tank is a 60gal (36"x18" base.)

Female chased them both before and chases them both now. Took about 12hours to "accept" the new Clark's.

Bottomline: don't expect the behavior to get more mild and it will likely get worse as JHardman said.

Good luck.

Sorry bout that. My tank is a 30gallon, with 36x14inch base diameters. I also have a bta in my tank, which the female has accepted, with a carpet anemone on the way.....:D

I had a couple Clarkiis and no anemone. This was in a 40 gal. I think though it wasn't exactly hosting it, that the Clarkii decided the Rhodactis was hers. Trouble was that the Rhodactis was HUGE, took up 1/4 of the tank. The only fish it was nasty to was a Kole tang (in fact it killed it indirectly). I think the reason was the tang was swimming around over HER Rhodactis.

Hopefully your fish are the type which can defend themselves. I would think the damsel and CB will.

BTW, I'm thinking of doing another pair of Clarkii and plan to have only brave fish, no wimpy Koles (although I like them).

Yeah the fish do defend themselves...it funny the domino damsel 1/5 the size of the clown, but after the clown has a go at it...the little bugger chases the clown. although the clown aint seem interested.....:D

KNG,

I would doubt the Clarks will do any real damage to the damsel and prob not the Coral Beauty. I would expect the 2 anemone to compete over time. Especially once the BTA is in full swing. fwiw my BTAs are easily 12" diameter.

Good luck.

Keep in mind that a clown kept by its self will become a female in a matter of a month or two.

Just because a new fish is small, it doesn't mean it's male. Buy captive bred to increase your chances of getting a male.
