I was thumbing through a skymall catalogue full of overpriced gee-whiz stuff. inside was a product called "full spectrum light bulbs" (claims to be healthy lighting) To any one not in the reef hobby 10 bucks per bulb would be expensive... we all know better though dont we? ;)

anyway I called the company today to find out the kelvin rating of their 150w bulbs. they claim 5800 Kelvins.

seems worth a cheep diy to try them out

I really don't recommend it. Incandescent bulbs produce very little blue light, which corals need most. They also have VERY poor lumens per watt efficiency. You would need 6 or 7 250w lamps to equal the amount of light from ONE 250w MH. Just an example there. They produce most of their light in the red part of the spectrum, but corals need a lot of blue light more than other colors.

Don't do it, IMO.
