I'm 60 hrs into a new 90g / 30sump. Tank has 5" DSB with donated live sand additions, 90 lbs of already "Fully Cured" LR that has considerable purple/red coralin and some surprise brown/green buttons.
Temp 78, Salinity 1.024, PH 8.0, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0...

I have'nt started the Euroreef skimmer as im reading the longer I hold off the better. I'm using a Micron bag only at the sump.

At 24 hrs the surprise buttons appeared and looked great. They were brown green and fully extended at all depths. Now at 60 hrs they appear less expansive and some at the lower depths look less supple. My guess is lighting as Im only using two 4' shop flourecents thru the cycle and while I finish the 2x 90w blue + 2x 250 MH hood.

Anything I can do at this point to improve their chances, ie, kalk or tweaking parameters, or will they end up casualties of my startup? Please lay it on me gang.

Remember your tank hasent begun to cycle. Amonia will arrise and nitrite then nitrate, but you a a DSB will will take care of that. I wouldnt put anymore quemicals in there till you have fully cycled. Since you have all the LR and seeded sand it shouldnt take long. They will come out once everything settles. Lighting can also cause this as they are looking for light and as there is lack of it they hide. Id try to finish your light project as soon as possible. Hope this helps.
