Hey I got a question because i was basically made fun off at a LFS that I visited for the first time (and last) but anyways I was asking about the t. maxima clams and he said "like the one is this book" I said yeah! he said 500 bucks minimum.... I was like "NO WAY!" I hear of people on hear that have 3 clams in thier tanks and you can't be paying that much for them!

I"m not wanting to put one in now, but in the future for sure.... Any cunucks know any good deals? Or any americans wanna smuggle one accross the boarder for me :) It's easyer then me trying to buy one and coming back and trying to claim it :(

Anywho, thanks in advance..

Saltwater Connection has beautiful farm raised clams. Nice 6in. Derasa,s we just bought for around $65
Not sure, but I believe the maxima,s are around $120. The prices vary depending on size of course. Smaller ones are under $100.
Check their webpage or give Jayson a call.

What store in London? I sometimes make the trip there but only store that I know of is on Wellington by the Theatre and Toys r Us, sorry I forget the name, Aquatic Systems maybe. Are there any other stores in London?

b-man welcome!

yeah there is a store called Incredible Aquariums. they have a lot of good dry goods and hardware... They carry the icecap 660 in stock as well as some RO/DI units...

It's on the corner of Commisioners and Wonderland in the same plaza as Sabastians and the Great Canadian Bagel :)

The Wellinton store is called Aquarium Services :)

Thanks,

Hey let me know if you ever have corals for sale or trade yourself. It's hard finding any reefers in this are to trade with, plus I have limited stock to trade myself, but am willing to purchase as well.

B-Man will do!

Windsor isn't far from Strathroy which is kewl :)

As for trading I'm in the same boat as you, I don't have anything big yet... I've bought a few frags and I'm gonna grow em out to see how it will go :)

Is there any reef stores in windsor??

Windsor is a baren desert as far as reef stores go. Horribly maintained tanks and exuberant prices. However, Detroit MI. has some good stores and the ever popular Tropicorium is there as well. The Tropicorium is really cool but I cannot buy corals there because of CITIES and the border. It's a shame cause they sell propigated corals which shouldn't be regulated but you have to pay a lot for forms and inspections in order to import them. E-mail me and I'll see if I have anything you want.

hey guys..i am in the toronto area..and there are a few stores around here.. but i am not sure which to suggest.. there is a big als in mississauga..that has a good selection of marine..

here is another to try.. http://www.customoceans.com.. they are in fort erie..and have some good prices..

i have heard of incredible aquarium in london and when i was in london it was closed..:( over xmas holidays. so i will make a trip soon to see what they have..

as for bringing stuff over the border..well.. get a copy of the CITES agreement..there are lots that are not in it..and these are legal to bring over.. mostly hard corals are the ones not allowed..but softs and polyps are most likely allowed..so here is a way to bring in the stuff from USA..

hope this helps..and if you ever in the toronto area.. i would be happy to direct ya to a few good stores..

as well there is a store in burlington..that i am not sure of name.. that is supposed to be ok for marine.. so pack up the cooler and go for a road trip..!!

see ya.. on the reef... i am the one with the maple reef!!

I thought I might just post a link to the CITES document. You will need adobe acrobat reader, to read this document. As far as I can tell , this is the entire agreement, but there may be more.Giant clams are listed as CITES II, so I think that you need the store in the US to provide an export permit. But as canuckreef stated, you should be able to bring in soft corals and polyps. I just briefly looked through the document, so there maybe more involved, and I maybe completely wrong, but you can have a look and see what you think.

actually,
i just had an email conversation with a CITES specialist and its true that most if not all the softies are legal to import. not to say that you wont be hassled if you mention you have corals. stonies and clams, i wouldnt even bother trying, too much hassle and cost for permits too.
have fun

Endoplasmic -> Let me know when you are going to go to Tropicorium, maybe we could set up a trade then. I'll go over with you... I'm a sucker for torture, thousands of beautiful corals and fish and I can't buy any.

smokinreefer -> Here's the deal, I have called the Customs and CITIES people several times. Liverock and Stoney corals, might as well forget it, permits and inspections and all. Softies, still have to have a secondary inspection at the US Fish and Wildlife (which is not at the border) in order to prove that they are indeed soft corals, cost around 95$US and only during regular business hours. That cost alone just about kills any value to the whole deal. The number to call is (519) 826-2100 or (416) 600-5553 and the american web site to get the export forms is http://international.fws.gov

I would bring back corals illegally as I do not have an ethical problem with it (Tropicorium - Captive propigated, and softies only), however I work in the States and it's just not worth risking my Carear.

Yeah.... I'd just try to find someone who lives near there... or from the states who wouldn't mind coming to canada for a "visit" that way it's all good :)

Cause I know when I goto the states I say I'm canadian give the toll people some money and drive off....
