ok, so i've made almost all the decisions i need to start up my softie prop tank, but i still have one lighting question. i'm going to be growing ricordea, zoanthids, and xenia. i'm also dead set on Iwasaki bulbs which means 175watts is not an option. so now i have to decide between 150 and 250. will one 250 be too much light in a 60g (frags will be 10-12 inches below water)? i will also have 2 VHO actincs. also would 150 be too little? i'm really looking for fast growth and good color since i want to sell these frags.

I would also like to know the same because my soon to be corals will be similar and I was thinking about (1) 250W Ushio MH w/ (2) 55W PC actinic supplements for my 29gal.

( I know it's a lot but I want room to be able to use them on my 55 gal that I will be switching from fresh to salt.)

Should I switch the 250W to 175W if when I move them to 55g I will probably get another to have one for each side.

Sorry to double up on your question CLOWDY.

Cost isn't a factor, 150 and 250's are close in price.

You can raise the bulbs as much as necessary, but you can only lower them to water level, if you're brave. Seems like a slam dunk to me, get the 250's.

if it helps any...i have a 60 gallon and i'm running 2x250 MH with 10K AB Bulbs and 2x96watt VHO Atnics.

and if i remember correctly, mr.sandman is running 2x400 on his 60 so can't be too much light right?

with my lighting..i have great sps growth. i notice that if my softies (ricordeas) are out in the open, they don't seem to open up as much. put them sorta half-half under a ledge and they do great.

i would recommend going with the 250 instead.

absolut, let me know when you get your tank setup. i want to get your opinion on the setup. i have a empty 29gallon that i was thinking of tossing a 250watt onto there. =)
