I am going to install the pumps to my return and to my protein skimmer. My return pump is a mag7 and my skimmer pump is a sen 900, I have the option of installing the pumps directly in the sump or I can keep them outside the sump. Which would be better if any?

your return pump goes outside the sump and the skimmer pump goes in the sump with the skimmer, check the manufacturers recomendations always however

If you have room in the sump I'd put them both in it. No worrys about the pumps or a bulkhead leaking.

Hiya...if a pump can be submerged, IMO, it should be submerged...eliminates the risks of leaking pumps since it just leaks back into the sump. JMO of course, HTH

Throw it in the sump, unless you're worried about the heat from the pump affecting the overall temp of your tank. The Mag 7 shouldn't generate much heat though.
