View Full Version : My macros going white...what gives?

Some of my newly acquired macro-algaes are truning white.
Some of the 'grapes' on the calupera(sp?) algae and the 'feathers' on the feather algae.

What is the cause of this and should I be concerned?

Thanks.

Oh yeah, will my macros just float around in the refugium or will they eventually attach to the rock rubble I have in there?

I think it maybe caused by a temperature change in the water, it causes the macro to go asexual, and die off. So, prune off all the white/clear stuff before it pollutes the tank.

Yeah, you don't want caulerpa to go asexual in your tank. That's always a messy thing.

Agreed, remove the discolored parts immediately, and watch for further discoloration.

Anything with a runner such as Caulerpa sp. are best off being gently anchored to a rock or the substrate. Also I find iron supplements to be very benificial for growing macro's.
