Hi All,

Has anyone compiled a list of local reef aquarium clubs?

If not, how about we use this thread to start one?

Great idea John! Allow me to start off by mentioning the New York City Aquarium Society (NYCAS) (http://www.nycas.com/). Don't let the name fool you. Meetings are held all over the place, from NYC to Yorktown (NY), and even New Jersey. Great bunch of people, and always a good time.

You can add Tampa Bay Reef CLub in there please. No offical website yet..

we are still a bit disorganized but we have had a few informal meetings. It was my intention to form a emergency support group and frag trading consortium with ocassional topic oriented rap sessions with thought processes stimulated by copious libations!

Don't forget to include contact info, phone numbers, web sites, etc.

Gus, yes, we will setup a page for this purpose once we get enough info.

Minnesota's only reef club is in the process of changing names right now. We have been known as RiverSouth ReefKeepers, and as of last night we voted to change the name to Twin Cities Marine Aquarium Society (TCMAS). We will be putting up a new web site shortly, and it will have contact phone numbers and emails on it.

Belonging to a reef club is way kewl!! If there isn't one in your area, start one! :D

Aquaman, that's a cool logo. Our club doesn't have a logo yet, because we are still so new. I whipped this one up a couple of minutes ago so we don't look so bad after that cool logo of yours.:D It's not great, but I only had a couple of minutes.

This is the club I started up at RPI. It's for anyone who would like to join and is setup for research as well as to educate the capital region community. We'll be setting up the 300g-500g tank this semester sometime and stocking it sometime next semester. We could really use some local help on the tank over the summer so if anyone is interested email aquarium@union.rpi.edu or me personally at allern@rpi.edu Thanks!

Here's the webpage (not too much yet)

Our club is MARSH, or Marine Aquarium & Reef Society of Houston. http://www.marshreef.org for info. We meet the first Monday of the month at members houses so we can see everyone's tank or at some of our lfs' that support us. Eric Boerneman is a featured speaker as well as a member and we had great reef pics of one of his latest dive trips at the January meeting.
Check out our website for info as to where the next meeting will be.

Reef clubs are way cool, great thread!

The Marine Aquarium Society of the Carolina's, (link's in the logo above) just had our first meeting this month, but everyone considered it a great success. We have every skill level in our group, from the "newbie" to the experienced veteran. But first and foremost... we're a group of hobbyists there to have fun, and maybe to learn a little something along the way.

If you happen to be in town on a MASC meeting night, by all means, stop by to say hello.

Our meetings are held on the second Saturday of the month, at 7:00 p.m.. Located in Shelby, NC we're less than an hour's drive from Charlotte, Hickory, and Spartanburg. Visit the MASC website for more info'.

Hello,

MARINE AQUARIUM SOCIETY OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY
http://www.maslac.org

This is a great club that meets formally once a month. With a growing membership, they have many activities that are always worthwhile. Check out their activity schedule before you visit Los Angeles.

Another great club is the SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA MARINE AQUARIUM SOCIETY.

They are located in Orange County (south of Los Angeles).

Hi Terry,

You might want to check out the listings of the member clubs of MASNA (Marine Aquarium Societies of North America) at http://www.masna.org.

I'm not sure exactly where you are, but if there is not a club in your immediate area, why not think about starting one? That's what I did, and the response has been overwhelming! I found many people wanting a club, but not knowing where to start.

I would be more than happy to help you get started if that's what you decide. :D Contact me if I can help in any way. We have lots of great ideas at MASNA to assist new clubs.

Good luck with all of your clubs people! Those of you who are not already member clubs of MASNA, you may want to think about joining up. As a unified group, we have a voice in legislative matters concerning our hobby. We need your support!

Connie Hannon
Public Relations Director, MASNA;
President, Marine Aquarium Society of the Carolinas (MASC)
