I'm looking to see how cheap I can get this...without getting ripped off by the LFS.

I was looking into it myself a year ago...was around $800, the stand is $450. Oceanic pretty much sets the price...so you prolly won't find a deal.

They are nice tanks but for around 1/2 the money go buy an All Glass tank...there isn't much difference! With the money you saved go buy some nice equipment....:)

I got an ALL Glas 120gal. With 6 holes in it and one large middle overflow. It set me back 700 bucks with tax. A oceanic comparable to what i wanted was 1000 dollars. I have 4 holes in the over flow and two holes in middle sides of the tank to blow water through the rock. I am real happy with the tank, except you can see some bubbles in the silicon, it is kinda bugging me, but oh well.

I paid about $900 for both an Oceanic 180RR, and the Oceanic pine RR stand. This was from my LFS about 2 years ago. Both items were ordered in for me.

When I called around to other places I was quoted as high as $1200 just for the tank. It pays to make some phone calls.

dang, that is cheap....900 for them both...i was quoted 899 for the tank alone, and that was the cheapest place. The stand was another 325...i think it's a pine stand though. So 1225 for the setup is kinda high eh?

My AGA 180rr was only $550 plus tax from my local LFS. That was almost a year ago.

You might find a used tank somewher cheap. I sold one with the stand, hood(VHO,PC light), live rock( 200lbs) big sump, $800 skimmer for $1200. I know a friend who is selling a nice 180 gallon complete and if you live in NE I can find out how much she is selling it for. E-mail me if you want.

Gosh, I wish I live elsewhere...but unfortunately I'm in Oklahoma...damn it all, there is never a sale here.

Sometimes you have to drive a tad to find the big deals. Call around to other major cities located within 150 miles from you and find out their prices. If the price of gasoline and the tank/stand are much cheaper than what you could get it locally, then go for it.

$550.00 for a AGA 180RR is what I was quoted from a LFS last spring as well. I can't remember the exact quote for the Oceanic 180RR, but it was around $850. I will take the AGA and the money saved any day, it's a nice a tank. I definitely like how AGA spaces out the top bracing on the larger tanks, the light isn't blocked by a big glass brace right smack in the center.

I believe that All-Glass is even made by Oceanic or at least owned by them. Not sure how much influence they have on AGA.

However, in my plans to purchase a 180 to be built-in to my basement wallm I am planning on spending the extra for the Oceanic for the sense of security I am getting from have the thicker glass and knowing that it has a 5-year warranty vs the 1-year warranty that AGA provides.

I have a 75-gallon Oceanic Reef-Ready tank in Iowa I am wanting to get rid of. I bought it last December and it has been sitting dry ever since. If anyone is interested, let me know. Take a look at pics . here (http://reefcentral.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=131211)

The Oceanic tanks are better made than the AGA tanks. They are made by the same manufacturer, but the workmanship, materials and finish are better on the Oceanic. The warranty on the Oceanic is longer, also.

Hey Grasshopper:
I saw this acrylic tank posted for sale in Springfield Mo. Maybe they will cut you a good deal.

I spent 1450.00 on an oceanic 180 show, white-washed oak, with stand and canopy....then like 70 bucks to have it drilled at lfs/owner's place.

I don't regret it.

If you buy a 180/pine combo..its a nature series (if only 999)...you may like having it because its shorter.

ask specific questions to lfs about warranty ect....aga-oceanic ect ect...may be all inner-twined corporately, but the warranties are very differant, as I understand it.----5y @ oceanic, vs 1yr aga.

I think its worth the extra $ for the oceanic...I had a 125 all-glass, and upgraded to the 180 I have now....oceanic is MUCH heavier, and I feel a lot better having it. my .02

I bought a new Oceanic 180 with an Oceanic oak stand and hood from an LFS employee who had a change in plans. He paid $1700, and bought it from a competing LFS cause he got it cheaper there :eek1: . Predrilled with dual overflows, bulkheads, etc etc...

Agu,

that is 100% inline with the research I've done.

I negotiate for a living...I got two ego maniac lfs owners to compete, and all though I may have paid to much...I don't think so.

It's all supply and demand...who's got it (onhand is key to me)...and what will they pay/sell it for?.....makes the world go round : )

OH MAN! I am in the process of buying a new tank right now...What a PIA! The prices are all over the board, and so is the BS. I don't know if this experience has made me happy for RC or otherwise? MY LFS, where I have done business for 15 years, really gave me a "great deal" because I am a member of her "club" and also long time customer discount. I priced Oceanic 75g. RR with stand. She showed me the "retail" price and then because of my long standing patronage, I could have it for $399.95 for the tank and $399.95 for the pine stand. BOY, I thought, great deal...almost 30% off. I wrote to a RC member I know in Minneapolis, about 190 miles away, about this great deal. He tipped me that this was high. I check down there and the "who knows you anyway" price was $169.95 for tank, and 119.95 for stand!!!!! I'm so ticked off I am seriously thinking of forgetting the whole thing.

OK, I'm better now........

Jost got a price on an Oceanic 200 RR(84x24x24) $819.00 tank only with plumbing kit.
Light oak stand $600.00
For a total of $1419.00 before tax. Not a bad price. This is the cheapest I've seen for an Oceanic tank and stand this size.

I can't help you with the price but your occupation suggest you probably travel... since Oceaninc is located in Dallas you could check some of the stores around there, maybe on your way to the border.

Seriously, your only 3ish hours from them and should have access to better prices than most of us due to lower shipping costs. I love my 135 and the center brace isn’t much of a problem. Cleaning it’s easy, my only problem is reaching the bottom center of the tank. The stands are really nice but the canopies are crappy for MH (I tossed theirs and build my own).

On another note… Oceanic was purchased by AGA in '97. I happened to be in Dallas when they gave a tour of their warehouse to DFWMAS (www.dfwmas.com). There used to be pics on their web site. It was very cool and I specifically asked if their tanks/craftsmanship had changed since the purchase and the reply was basically “No. Every part of their tanks are a little nicer than the other guys… buffed glass edges, the silicone is even and straight, beefier/more durable trim... you name it. Is it worth ~20% more? I’ll do it again next time.

Good luck,
Stuart

THANK YOU...I rest my case :)

1450.00 for the 180 show tank, stand, canopy, light strips, and lid's...may not have been stealing, but was more than fair....and I don't know about you guys...but I don't work for free either :)

oh yea...that was delivered, and they include 100 gal premixed salt water....delivered as well.

maybe they jacked me on the 1000 watt's of vho though:confused:

Should I get the oceanic pine stand for another 325? that way I get their 5 year warrantee? Or do u think an oak stand is worth the money....Does anyone paint their pine stand?? I really like the white washed oak color...

Agu

I've had an Oceanic pine stand for a 37 gallon and oak for a 180. If you don't care how cheap and tacky the stand looks get pine..................... they both will hold the tank up. However, if you have a significant other/spouse who used to sell furniture the oak stand is much more aesthetically appealing.

jme,
